Determined that on the back of a mixed experience in Auckland, I was going to put in a really solid few months of winter training, I decided about a month ago that I was going to have my lactate threshold (LT) tested for both the bike and run.  And since it was easy to do the VO2 Max testing at the same time, I might as well get that done too.

Well, I think it’s fair to say winter base training appears to be coming to an end. It must be as the sessions are starting to get harder, faster and they are starting to hurt!

So, let’s be honest, 2011 kinda went better than I could have hoped.  I donned the GB ‘blue suit’ for the first time at the European Duathlon Championships. I then grabbed a place at the World Triathlon Championships in Beijing. I held my own in the national events. I managed a few top-tens. I shaved nearly 90 seconds off my 5km PB. Even took the odd age group win.  All in all, a good year.

I think you can safely say I am in winter training.  My Triblogs records for November show a total of just over 48 hours of training (8:10 swimming, 20:42 cycle/turbo, 14:56 running, 4:20 gym).
