OK, so you know the story: chest infection, illness, lack of training, work schedule, yada yada yada. No point in going over old ground, but needless to say my preparation for this weekend's race was far from perfect.  ‘Nuff said.

It’s difficult to know where to start with this particular report.  I’m not sure how or when coach Mark Shepherd and I made the decision, but since the turn of the year the Dambuster Triathlon has somehow been my big ‘A’ race of the year.   I guess the reason for this was simply that it was my last chance to qualify for Beijing and the Age Group world champs.

Well. This was nearly the race that wasn't. Having qualified for Beijing at last week's Speedy Beaver, it was tempting to say 'job done' and give Shropshire (an Olympic distance ITU qualifier, rather than sprint like Eton and Speedy) a miss.  Having already raced two weeks running, there was half a thought to give my body a rest in the lead up to Dambuster on 18th June.

I'll admit that when I signed-up to race the Speedy Beaver as my second attempt to qualify for the Sprint Triathlon category at the Beijing world champs later this year, I wasn't really thinking about anything other than qualifying...

I’d heard rumours it’s always windy at Dorney Lake.  But nothing quite prepared me for the howling gales that greeted me as I parked up and got the bike out of the car for the Beijing sprint triathlon qualifier on Sunday morning.
