As I sit and write this, I am in a rather nice hotel room overlooking the Las Vegas strip, with clear blue skies outside and a temperature of 86 degrees F. My experience of Vegas thus far can best be summed up as 'surreal', but I only arrived last night so maybe it will all make more sense when I'm less jet-lagged...

I'm painfully aware that some readers of my blog may wonder what the hell a guy with a mere 18 months of Triathlon training under his belt is doing offering advice to the wider world.  Surely there are a lot of more qualified 'experts' out there offering a more valid view?

Well, yes, and if I come across as a know-it-all I apologise! That's not my intention at all.  If anything, a lot of my blog posts are actually a method for reminding myself of training and racing principles that will benefit me as much as you - I find the process of writing my thoughts down actually forces them into my brain.

And so it was this week that I had a bit of a re-revelation.  Why a "re"-revelation?  Well, because I already knew and trusted the theory - but for various reasons I had chosen to ignore it for a while.   This week it was time to get back on the wagon.

Just five days to go till the first 'proper' race of 2011 - the Dambuster Duathlon at Rutland Water.  I've been to the venue three times already in 2010, but never actually raced it myself so this is kind of familiar-yet-new territory to me.

Well, I can report that having promised to lay off exercise for 24 hours from Tuesday, I made good on my commitment.  And then some.  I finally did my first light session this morning, just an hour on the turbo, but sufficient to prove that a) I am on the mend and b) this cold really did knock me for six (apologies to American readers for this very English expression!).

Greetings from my deathb... er, I mean sickbed (whoever said blokes can't handle being ill, eh?).

Recently, I've been reading a book recommended by Kim Ingleby titled "10-Minute Toughness".  I'm paraphrasing, but one of the many sound recommendations in the book is to make public your goals and aspirations - to give yourself an added incentive to make those goals a reality.

Which makes me wonder if the same is true for confessions and resolutions?  Assuming the answer is 'yes' then I have two to make public today.
