Just a quick update

Nothing terribly exciting to report this week, except that I am now less than two weeks away from my first triathlon of the year - the Eton half-distance, which is a qualifier for the ITU World Age Group Sprint Triathlon Championships in Beijing.

The nerves are already beginning to kick-in; and the fact that I've already worn the blue suit once in 2011 (and will do again in September at the Duathlon World Champs in Spain) isn't counting for much!  Triathlon qualification has always been the main goal, so while it's not quite a case of 'now or never', there's certainly no shortage of self-pressure.

After Eton, things get a little busy for a while!  A week later and it's Speedy Beaver (another Beijing qualifier and also a 2012 European Champs qualifier); then on 5th June it's Shropshire and on 18th June back to Dambuster (both standard distance Beijing qualifiers).

On the bright side, that'll be the hard work done.  Nothing more I can do after Dambuster to try to get to Beijing this year. In July, I plan to do my 'home' triathlon of Marlborough and then August is empty at the moment.  Quite tempted to try to find a fast 10km race where I can have a go at a new PB.

Preparations for Eton will be interrupted somewhat by a short holiday to Portugal next week - not ideal timing, but forced by work commitments.  I guess you can argue things either way - I'll miss a few sessions on the bike, but I'll still be able to run and swim (albeit in the sea - debating whether to take wetsuit!) and a little taper probably won't hurt.  Will just need to watch my food and alcohol intake!

Anyway, sorry for the ramble, just felt I needed to do a quick little update.

Matt Fisher runs - so it's all his fault! He pretends to be a triathlete, but really he is a husband, father and company VP. But he has raced for the GB Age Group squad a few times and is a two-times qualifier for the IM70.3 world champs
